Old Silkstone band is a first section brass band in the Yorkshire region catering for many different musical requirements, from traditional programmes to more contemporary performances. As well as being available for engagements, the band hosts its own concerts at the Penistone Paramount and holds a popular March and Hymn Tune Contest in the village each July.
The band was founded in 1861, by Coniah Stringer, and is still going strong almost 150 years later. Based in Silkstone, South Yorkshire, the band competes in the First Section at regional and national contests and is aiming to achieve a return to Championship status for its 150th year in 2011.
Old Silkstone Band currently has vacancies for flugel, soprano cornet and Bb bass. The band has well-attended, friendly rehearsals, Monday and Thursday at 8pm at our bandroom in Silkstone.
